Wyatt Cabral
is a native Placencian. He grew up in the village and on one
of the cayes together with his large family; he has 13 siblings
(brothers Egbert, Julian and Daniel are also fishing guides).
Wyatt has been fishing all his life; as a little boy helping
his Dad catch enough fish to feed the big family and then, growing
older, as a commercial fisherman.
When the
first flyfishermen arrived in Placencia some 10 years ago, he
became curious, bought a rod and reel and tought himself how
to flyfish. Commercial fishing included trolling, spincasting,
spearfishing and bottomfishing, but not fly fishing.
Wyatt then decided to try scuba diving, loved it, did his Open
Water Course and then continued his diving education all the
way up to Dive master and Assistant Instructor.
For eight
years he worked as a guide at Glover's Reef, sharing his time
between the different resorts. Since he is so allround (guiding
divers, snorkellers and fishermen) there was never a problem
to find work.
A few years
ago he Wyatt decided to return to Placencia and freelance from
there.
In 2000 he met Swedish Carina who soon became his wife. She
will make sure that you'll get a nice lunch on your trip; often
including home-made Swedish bread and cookies.
